Every time I disable the Resident Shield, Windows Security icon pops up telling me that I’m not protected. Any idea how to stop that. avgrsx.exe sucks up a ton of memory.

    Thanks.

Anti-virus software is built like that for a reason else the virus could just shut the antivirus down itself.

I did as you suggested and “Uncheck(ed) Resident Shield active” but it still displays that the antivirus is active. Is the antivirus still active? Or is the Resident Shield like a master component that shuts down everything if you disable it?

AVG got upset when some viruses bypassed AVG & infected the AVG files so after Ver 8 AVG will not let anyone or any program that acts like a virus disable it so you stuck with it my advise uninstall it & try another like panda kaspersky ect..
I Uninstalled the one on my pc & installed panda i can control this one & I can install the applications i want without interference or nagging AVG.

another way to to disable all of avg for win vista and win 7 users is to click start and on the search bar type cmd and press enter (this opens command prompt). Then type: taskkill /f /im avg*
this will end all avg process’s.
