There is not a kid in my elementary school that hadn’t heard of Mario by the time he was twelve, its ingrained in to our childhood. Mario and his friends will always have a special spot in our hearts.
Because there are so many fans of Mario and his friends after a while fan art, fan movies, fan flash animations start to pop up.
Here is a collection of a few of the better ones
Most fans tend to make Mario out to be a bad buy, I wonder why?
If you have anther Mario contributed work feel free to comment with it and I will add it to the list.
For the people that grew up with the Muppets, Mah Na Mah Na song is no stranger. I still find myself singing it as I walk down the street to the horror of my too cool friends with in ear shot.

VIVO Media arts is a not for profit video production, exhibition and distribution center. They rent equipment, and exhibition spaces with there pretty cheap Membership rate its a good resouce for anyone tring to get in to film or other media arts.
They also have a good variety of workshops on many different subjects.
Some of the upcoming workshops that have caught my eye;
Beginner electronics and circuit bending
Thu. April 26, 6-9 PM, Fri. April 27, 6-9 PM (Two sessions x 3 hours)
This course will cover some basic theory of electronic principals that is essential for beginning to work with this medium. From there we will look at some of the components that make up simple circuits and that create the building blocks for more complex circuits. Students will learn some of the basic skills needed for electronic work such as soldering, breadboarding, and reading a schematic. These skills will be used to build a simple audio amplifier (simlare to the cracker box amp that i made earlier) and experiment with different input options such as contact microphones. We will also have a look at how to get started with circuit bending and modifying existing circuits.
Reverse animation and compositing
Sat. April 28 2-6 PM
Reverse Animation is similar to Rotoscoping. Rotoscoping is an animation technique in which animators trace over live-action film movement, frame by frame, for use in animated films. Reverse Animation is the process in which you ERASE elements of live action or other media, using Photoshop, creating transparent backgrounds or other effects. These frames can then be used in Final Cut Pro to create professional looking multi-layer compositions.
Digital photography
Thu. May 10, 6-9:30 PM, Fri. May 11, 6-9:30 PM (Two sessions x 3.5 hours)
The irony of digital photography is that it is now so easy and convenient to take good pictures, yet people are too overwhelmed by these advances to take advantage of them. In this workshop participants will learn how to manipulate ISO settings (sensitivity of “film”), when to use spot metering or regular metering, how to use aparture priority and shutter priority, how to set white balance, and how to do post processing. The workshop will be hands-on, with an extensive question and answer session.
VIVO Media arts has lots of other workshops available and new ones are added regularly, if you get a chance you should check them out.
A video where lassegg hits each note on a drum and piano separately and edited them together to make a song. Its pretty good if you ask me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzqumbhfxRo
Some “Youtube” people are saying that he ripped off Michel Gondry’s video but there is a pretty important difference between the two. Michel Gondry’s is mixing drum sequences while lassegg is mixing just the beats of the song them remixing them.
I think there is a substantial difference between the two.
Here is Michel Gondry’s video and heres lassegg video
What one do you like better?
And here is a really slow one with a Guitar thats not too good but still uses the same tech.
Birdy Nam Nam consites of 4 DJs, and 8 turn tables, with the simple mission to use a turntable as an actual musical instrument. A Four French men crew, Crazy-B, DJ Pone, DJ Need and Lil’ Mike each man 2 turn tables for a very impressive show. There music can easy stand on its own but its simply amazing to watch them spin. The included YouTube video is stunning.

Ferrofluid
Ferrofluid is a liquid that reacts to magnetism. It is attracted by magnets, pretty similar to iron. This can lead to areas where the liquid partly resists to gravitation when a magnet approaches. Thereby a small bump is formed close to the load stone. This behavior is enabled by magnetic nano-particles that are suspended in a carrier fluid. Normally the particles are coated with a surfactant to prevent their agglomeration. This results in stable ferrofluid dispersions.
In this project Martin Frey builds an array of electronic magnets and connects them to a tiny computer to play the classic game of snake.
More information and a video included. SnOil
This is a pretty interesting project, I looks like he built it with an array of144 small electric magnets arranged in a grid pattern. there is alot more he could do with this magnetic array like icons or words. 32×32 is still pretty small though imagine what he could do with a 320X200 screen. With that kind of resolution you could recreate most classic arcade style games but it would be pretty expensive just for the magnets.
An interesting look at beat boxing and cooking

Forest sprites with magical potions create romantic havoc in this deliciously magical comedy. Upset with Queen Titania, Oberon, King of the Fairies, engages Puck to charm her with a nectar that causes love at first sight. Mischievous Puck not only arranges for Titania to fall for a simple weaver named Bottom whom he has transformed into an ass, but he uses the nectar to tangle the affections of four courtly lovers who have sought refuge in the forest. Much hilarity also occurs as Bottom and his friends rehearse a play they hope to present at court.
