For the people that grew up with the Muppets, Mah Na Mah Na song is no stranger. I still find myself singing it as I walk down the street to the horror of my too cool friends with in ear shot.
This weekend we built a IPod amplifier to power a small 8ohm speaker for an art project that one of my good friends was doing. Her project involved a metal sculpture that speak a manifiesto to anyone that walked in front of it.
It ended up costing closer to $20 CAN in parts because when you buy capacitor and resistor you have to buy them in bundles packages of 20 or so. In the end I have enough spare parts to build 5 of these amps for $20.
The directions where a little difficult to understand, they assumed that you have a good knowledge of circuit diagrams. With the help of of this diagram it should be too hard to figure out what to do. I probably would not have gotten it working with out that diagram.
Instead of using a 1/4 mono phone jack I used a mono head phone jack that connects easily to my IPod. I removed the potentiometer, it just isn’t needed for a IPod amp.
A full size schematic and directions can be downloaded from MAKE’s web page. If you run in to problems feel free to leave me a comment I might be able to help you or try the MAKE forums
Some “Youtube” people are saying that he ripped off Michel Gondry’s video but there is a pretty important difference between the two. Michel Gondry’s is mixing drum sequences while lassegg is mixing just the beats of the song them remixing them.
I think there is a substantial difference between the two.
Here is Michel Gondry’s video and heres lassegg video
What one do you like better?
While creating a post about julie-feeney a wonderful musician I wanted to post some streamable samples of her music.
Most Projects that I found where overly complicated and bloated with features that I just didn’t need. I was about to give up and use Quicktime plugin untill i found audio-player-wordpress-plugin by 1pixelout.net its exactly what I wanted a simple player with a Start and Stop button.
A very creative musician with a fantastic voice, a very sexy Irish accent. She plays eleven instruments on “13 songs” album, including keyboards, alto recorder, treble recorder, harmonium, accordion, violin, harmonica, melodica, and xylophone.
“You bring me down” has found a permanent spot on my play list and is definitely worth a listen
I recently installed a flash mp3 player, so you should be able to play the samples directly from your browser.

Birdy Nam Nam consites of 4 DJs, and 8 turn tables, with the simple mission to use a turntable as an actual musical instrument. A Four French men crew, Crazy-B, DJ Pone, DJ Need and Lil’ Mike each man 2 turn tables for a very impressive show. There music can easy stand on its own but its simply amazing to watch them spin. The included YouTube video is stunning.
A really interesting YouTube video where Greg Pattillo beatbox a flute to the inspector gadget theme, he even has a MySpace where you can listen to a few of his other songs.
Tool at GM Place Review
The stage was set up with a 2-3 meter high white wall that made the musicians look huge compared to the backdrop, they had a few projectors creating some pretty trippy visuals on the wall, it more and more intense with each passing song. Adam Jones was off to the front left and Justin Chancellor on to the right, both where barley in the light of the stage for most of the show. Maynard dead center of the stage, right of him was Danny Carey with a huge drum kit. Above the stage were 3 circle light stages that dropped down to maybe 15 feet above the stage and rotated around, red green and blues. A complex show of red and green lasers that bounced off precisely placed mirrors around GM place filling the place with an amazing ligh show, worthy of praise.
The track list when something like this;
Stinkfist
The Pot
46 & 2
Jambi
Schism
Rosetta Stoned
Right in Two
Sober
Lateralus
Vicarious
Aenima
Right after Lateralus a huge track epic with the crowd, they came out and sat down to the edge of the stage feeding off the praise and energy of the crowd, Danny Carey in his Lakers jersey just pumping the crowd for energy.
Amazing show, I will be first in line next time they come anywhere close to Vancouver.
